This is a truly treasured experience that I would recommend to anyone visiting beautiful Tobago. Meeting the horses and trusting them to guide you into the water, all while taking in the breathtaking views of Buccoo Bay, feels almost cosmic. Thank you to Veronika, the team at Being with Horses, and the herd for such unforgettable memories that I will carry with me always.
My older daughter who is now twelve years old was allowed the opportunity to develop her leadership and team building skills and help assist the leaders with some of their classes. She absolutely loved it, and for a pre-teen it was amazing to see her own personal self-esteem and confidence increase with the experience...not to mention the loads of fun she had! This camp is not only about being with horses, it's also about being with people.

I have always had a passion for animals. I was truly able to embrace my love for them when I joined the Healing with Horses family. The first horse I fell in love with was Kalakunjin. She was truly the black beauty. I am forever grateful for my time there. I have learned so much not only working with the animals but also the people. I’ve made life long friends and I will forever cherish the opportunity to be a part of the foundation

It was clear to me—I absolutely wanted to spend my internship semester abroad, and preferably in South America! Since I was flexible about the specific fields of practice but was very interested in the area of working with people with special needs, I simply typed “South America” and “people with special needs” into Google. I came across many different places and organizations, including Healing with Horses. At the same time, I read various internship reports from other students in Germany and had already discovered the organization there as well. The final push to apply came from Nancy, who is studying and also volunteering with me at HWH and is a huge horse fan!
HWH Intern
I discovered Healing with Horses (HWH) through a family member, who had been praising their services. When the family member heard that HWH needed someone to help with their administrative work, and I was unemployed at the time, it seemed like a match. Right away, I could sense that HWH was special. The environment exuded an air of warmth that was welcoming. During my time as office manager, I had the pleasure of watching HWH grow and change as it adapted to new challenges. It was inspiring to be a part of an organization that has meant so much to the children and young adults who participate in their therapy sessions and events. I wish them all the best as they continue to find new and creative ways to serve their community.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of Healing with Horses from its inception. I feel so grateful everyday that I am there. Seeing all the growth, changes and lives that have been touched over the years. I’m so grateful for the horses who are given a second chance at life, for the people whose lives are touched and changed positively through the interaction with the horses, for the space and community that is created and shared through this organisation, for all the animals there that are given a loving home and a space to just be themselves. And I feel immensely grateful that I have the pleasure of being a part of it all and also sharing that with my son

Healing With Horses has become a place I naturally return to whenever I’m in Tobago. Over time, I’ve had the opportunity to help with grooming, walking, clipping, rinsing, handling, and caring for several of the horses, all with completely different personalities and temperaments. Working closely with horses like Princess Julie, Dulce Dama, Aphrodite, Sir Winston, Zimbu, Kalakunjin, Mr. Divo and Apollo taught me how much horses respond to calm energy, confidence, patience, and mutual respect. Some of the horses known for being more selective or difficult with handlers were surprisingly comfortable with me, which made the connections I built with them feel even more special.
